DIANA FONSECA

1978
Havana, Cuba
Currently lives and works in Havana, Cuba

Diana Fonseca was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1978. She attended the San Alejandro Academy (1997-2000) and then the ISA (Instituto Superior de Arte) (2000-2005) in the same city, where she currently lives and works. Her work has been exhibited extensively, among the most important exhibitions we can mention Enjoy, collateral exhibition to the IX Bienal de La Habana (2006); the V Saloon of Contemporary Art in Havana, Cuba (2008); and the XII Havana Biennial (2015).

The process of making art for this artist involves several stages. The first one is an exploration game in which she collects fragments of old paint from the city buildings, like a sort of urban archaeologist. Her work doesn’t involve sketches or previous preparation; the results will be dictated by the finds. The conceptual root of her work is connected to the fortuitous and spontaneous acts of life, at the same time that is giving us the story of the city through its pigments.
