Biografía

Jose Bedia was born in 1959, in Havana, Cuba. He attended the School of Art of San Alejandro, Havana, Cuba (1976), and the Superior Institute of Art (1981), both in Havana. He was part of the ground breaking group Volumen I, which shook the foundations of Contemporary Cuban art in the island. This group was very influential during the time it was active, and later on the following generations of Cuban artists. Bedia is one of the most important contemporary Cuban artists, and his work has been part of countless important group shows in prestigious institutions worldwide. He has also presented many individual exhibitions in galleries and museums. His work can be found as part of numerous prominent private collections around the world. It is also included in the collections of institutions such as Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C; Guggenheim Museum, New York; Contemporary Art Museum, San Diego, California; Perez Art MuseumMiami, Florida; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Monterrey, Mexico; Museo de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba; Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, Arizona, and Pori Art Museum, Finland, to name a few.
