Our auction catalog includes important Jamaican names, such as Carl Abrahams, David Boxer, Everald Brown, Eric Cadien, Leonard Daley, Milton George, Kapo, William "Woody" Joseph, among several others. Some 60 percent of the works in the auction are from the Wayne and Myrene Cox Collection. The Coxes have documented and collected the work of Jamaica"s intuitive artists for over 35 years. Works from their collection have been featured in recent museum exhibitions in Bristol and London, England; Paris, Sao Paulo, New York City, Washington D.C. and Miami. The "Redemption Songs'' exhibition of their collection was described in a 2001 New York Times review as "one of the season's finest exhibitions." The auction includes works from that exhibition, including works by Kapo, Everald Brown, Ras Dizzy and others. Art and Auction magazine named the Coxes in its 2005 list of the "100 best art collectors in the United States."
“We are extremely grateful to Wayne and Myrene Cox and to Pan American Art Projects for supporting the work of the AFJ through proceeds of this auction. We are proud to be associated with this significant collection of Jamaican art. Our Friends and supporters know that the creative community is a critical sector of the country” - said Wendy Hart, President of the American Friends of Jamaica.
"We are pleased to support the work of American Friends of Jamaica," said Wayne Cox. “It is providing outstanding assistance to organizations in Jamaica that bolster the nation’s health, education and economic and food security.”
Robert Borlenghi, President of Pan American Art Projects, said: “I am very pleased to be joined by Wayne and Myrene Cox in the support of The American Friends of Jamaica with one more fine Jamaican art auction organized by the gallery in Miami”.
