I made these works directly by carving the Icelandic Poem runes in the snow, while I was in an art residency at ART YARD NJ in January 2022. The photos capture a personal moment of introspection, isolation, and research related to the formation of local narratives and the adequacy of human language to the geographic context and the availability of natural materials. In this case, facing the phenomena of cold and snow that are distant experiences for me ( have lived all my life in tropical places like Cuba and Florida), I become interested in finding the ancestral origin of the runes as a language and means of mythological expression for Norther Europe cultures.
