Painting has been in my life since I was a kid and continues to intrigue me. Studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago I was introduced to many mediums but gravitated toward painting. Throughout my 20’s I worked as a painter for the theater, television, and also created high end custom painted finishes. In my 30’s I was busy with kids and life and my put my painting on hold. During this time, my creative outlet was satisfied with sewing and textile art.
My reconnection with painting started with an introduction to encaustic. Working in layers with this versatile medium is endlessly inspiring and has more possibilities than I have time to discover. Hot wax led to cold wax and my journey continues.
With Art as well as life, interests and priorities are in constant flux which is unpredictable and exciting. The painting process is a messy, difficult, beautiful struggle and the history of that struggle is revealed in the rich surfaces of my paintings. My inspiration comes from the intersection of the natural and human made world, the illusiveness of time and the fragility, beauty and ugliness of it all.
