Biography
In his multidisciplinary practice, Reynier Leyva Novo uses photography, video, installations, and new technologies to extract historical data and official documents, which he then transforms into a formally minimalist work with great conceptual meaning.
One of Cuba's top conceptual artists, Reynier Leyva Novo works in a variety of media, combining anthropological research with state-of-the-art technology to investigate the psychological and sociological effects of complicated issues throughout the history of Cuba and the Caribbean. He develops his projects by mining official documents and historical data, turning their contents into conceptually charged, minimalist sculptures and multimedia installations that are both visually striking and thought-provoking. Novo investigates the psychological and sociological ramifications of complicated topics throughout the history of Cuba and the Caribbean by combining anthropological study with state-of-the-art technology. In order to create minimalist, philosophically charged sculptures and multimedia works that are both aesthetically pleasing and thought-provoking, he mines historical data and official papers.
