Paul Manes: Recent Paintings
October 19 - November 24, 2007
Pan American Art Projects
Dallas, Texas

Pan American Art Projects Dallas is pleased to announce Paul Manes' solo exhibition opening on Friday, October 19 on view through November 24, 2007. Born and raised in Texas, Paul Manes has lived and worked in New York City for the last 25 years. This will be his first solo gallery exhibition in Texas since 1993 and his first with Pan American. Featuring a broad spectrum of Manes' work, from paintings of cascading and overlapping bowls and stacked lumber to the more recent paintings of tangled swamps and forests. In the grand manner of the Old Masters, Manes' mural size paintings of profound tonality and texture convey drama on an epic scale.

Manes received a BFA from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and attended graduate classes at Hunter College in New York. He has traveled throughout Spain and Italy absorbing the lessons of the masters on structure and chiarascuro contrasts. Being color blind, Manes mature style came to be based on light and dark contrasts rather than fields of color. His artwork has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and Europe. Museum acquisitions include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Art Museum of South East Texas, and Detroit Museum of Art. His paintings can also be found in the collections of Yoko Ono, Williams Sonoma, and Emeril's Restaurants.
