Pan American Art Projects Dallas is pleased to announce Isabelle du Toit’s second solo exhibition with us opening on Saturday, May 10, with a cocktail reception from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.. The artist will be attendance. This exhibition will be on view through June 14.
Isabelle du Toit's meticulous depictions of mostly solitary animals ask the viewer to consider the plight of nature in the face of man's encroachment. Minimalist and contemporary backdrops isolate the honesty and beauty of her subjects. Du Toit believes that realism and simplicity have a direct link to truth and honesty. In this new body of work, du Toit also contrasts the soft, warm, and organic shape of her animals with what could only be considered man-made constructions – reflecting on the increasingly isolated and selfish life that modern society has created. Loneliness is portrayed as a human condition as well as our disconnect with nature.
Born in Strasbourg, France, du Toit later immigrated to South Africa where she received her BFA in printmaking in from Port Elizabeth Technikon. Currently a resident of Dallas, she exhibits throughout the US and is an award-winning member of the International Guild of Realism. Du Toit was featured in New American Paintings in 2006 and just recently in Studio Visit Volume 2, a juried selection of international artists in print.
