May 17 – June 10 Ernesto Estevez, Paul Manes, Diego Torres Project room: A selection of landscape paintings from the Vanguardia
Landscape painting is one of the oldest genres in the history of art and one of the most popular as well. In this opportunity we are presenting the paintings of three landscape artists Ernesto Estevez, Paul Manes and Diego Torres.
Ernesto Estevez and Diego Torres are both from Cuba and have devoted their careers to this genre inspired by the nature of their country, and following the historic tradition of landscape painting in the Caribbean. Estevez’s work can be described as hyperrealist, reflecting faithfully the nature that surrounds him, a true reflection of the Cuban nature.
Diego Torres, in the other hand, reflects a ‘recreated’ landscape, altered by his imagination, many resulting in surreal nocturnal views. He also tends to include other elements such as traffic signs, giving it a humorous touch.
Paul Manes landscapes are quite different. His expressionistic paintings are more inclined towards an interpretation of the landscape rather than a reflection. His large canvases usually portrait a more intense and personal view of this genre.
In the project room we’ll present a selection of landscapes from the period know as Vanguardia in Cuba.
